|

how do you guys chain your eq's and compressors when building your kick?
i usually go like this: base->parameq->comp->parameq
i am not sure if it's the best way to go to have two equalisers. if one would be sufficient, does it make more sense to put it behind the compressor?
atm moment i use the described chain the following way:
first eq: basic modeling of the basedrum. (i.e. cutting away <30hz, etc.)
compressor: make the thing kick
second param eq: final modeling -> taking away hardness caused by harsh compression.
what's your method? |

hmm,
in my opinion is better to use just one before the compressor and then tweak the compressor to sound good and avoid extra harshness, but i dont work in a very technical way, so.... _________________ the most lovely corpse-eatin mammal on earth |

If I've started with a decent kick sample:
[kick] -> [ParamEQ]. No compressor. It goes into the Pre-Master Cheapo Amp of doom which begins the master fx...which starts with an Oomek Exciter and then a limiter.
The only time I use a compressor on a kick is if it's an acoustic kick...those seem to always need help. In which case it comes after the EQ. _________________ - Hamst3r

I usually use Kick -> ParaEQ -> Compression, and no second EQ after the compression. I usually work on the initial kick sound a lot before I compress, layering different sounds etc. The compression is usually minimal, unless I'm working with bassdrums that are all over the place, in which case I isolate the attack (comp attack around 10-15 ms, release very long) and work from there. _________________ wayfinder |

I run all my drums through one uhm,"buzz bus" out of samplegrid these days, and EQ > compress > EQ the whole drum mix. That way you can get some wierd hybrid of straight and frequency-dependant compression, but on the whole signal, but anyway.. sounds fine to me _________________ NEW_ATOM / DISASTERADIO http://disasteradio.org || http://myspace.com/disasteradio |
